Director of Fostering Academics and Mentoring Excellence (FAME)
As a director I coordinate all services provided by the FAME (Fostering Academics, Mentoring
Excellence) Program including life skills coaching, mentoring, student advisory board, monthly
workshops/trainings, and finals week survival kits. As the head coach for FAME I provide
individualized services to 70-100 MSU students per year with experience in foster care or other
nontraditional upbringings. I provide supervision of a team including program staff, interns and
volunteer mentors. FAME is grant funded by DHHS, requiring I monitor contract compliance,
accurate documentation and completion of monthly reporting and billing statements to program
funders. Development and implementation of program policies and procedures. Conduct
student assessment and participate in student-led case planning and interventions.Establish
and maintain partnerships with university personnel to develop supportive network for foster
youth alumni on campus and increase availability of supportive services to youth at risk of
dropping out. Outreach to high school youth in foster care regarding accessing higher education
services. Participate in community outreach and education to increase awareness of challenges
experienced by former foster youth in higher education.
Whaley Children's Center, Clinical Therapist November 2016-November 2021
As a clinical therapist at Whaley Children's Center I work with adolescents males/females ages
5-17, completing therapeutic treatment for children who have faced extreme abuse or neglect.
As a clinical therapist I complete psychosocial histories, court reports, individual treatment
plans, behavioral assessments, suicide risk assessments, safety plans, and participate in
interdisciplinary clinical team meetings. Conduct individual/group/family therapy sessions, case
conferences, family visitations, attend review hearings, IEP meetings, and work with various
service providers to ensure permanency and ongoing support for children. This position is held
full-time.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Harambe Management Solutions (contract) Taylor Life Center/Consumer Services, Inc
(CSI). July 2018-July 2019
As a community mental health case manager I was assigned the following responsibilities;
develop and monitor person-centered plans and treatment goals, assess needs and link
consumers to appropriate public and private resources, coordinate services with other treatment
team members, maintain relationships with referral sources and other stakeholders, maintain
ability to work both in office and at personal residences, provided family psychoeducation,
petitioned the court serious mental health needs, and maintained active communication with
family and friends of consumers. This position was held part-time.
Michigan Department of Health & Human Service (DHHS) May 2015 –November 2016
As a Foster Care Worker at DHHS I had the opportunity to work with a diverse population of
families in urban and suburban areas. Job duties included meeting with clients on a weekly to
monthly basis in regards to monitoring needs and possible services. I conducted Family Team
Meetings, spoke on behalf of families during civil court hearings, performed case management
duties, and completed initial/updated plans & court reports. This position was held full-time.
August 2014- May 2015
Wolverine Human Services
As a clinical therapist at Wolverine Human Services I worked with adolescents males ages
13-17, completing therapeutic treatment for 6-9 months. As a clinical therapist I completed
psychosocial histories, court reports, individual treatment plans, behavioral assessments,
suicide risk assessments, safety plans, PREA assessments, and participated in interdisciplinary
clinical team meetings. Conducted individual/group/family therapy sessions, case conferences,
family visitations, and worked as one of the supervisors for youth specialist at the facility. This
position was held full-time.
Whaley Children’s Center June 2013- July 2014
As a Youth Specialist I worked directly with adolescents and children, helping them with basic
everyday needs. This included cooking, cleaning, social interaction, and educational goals.
Working with Whaley I became CPR certified, trained in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI),
and exposed to the various dynamics of a child who has been abused or neglected. I have
worked on forming anger management groups and had the opportunity to understand case files,
and the behavior plans of individual children. This position was held part-time.
Flint Community Schools September 2013- April 2014
Working as a School Social Work Intern I was a part of the Learning Support Staff (LSS),
offering services to the students with special needs. The training here included preparations for
students' Individual Education Plans (IEP’s), Behavioral Intervention Plans, running social work
groups, and making direct contact with parents. The social work groups have included stress
and anger management, identifying emotions, self-esteem, and classroom behavior. I spent
time working on case notes, and becoming aware of the many diagnoses for elementary
students. This position was held part-time.
